Postcards from Earth: Holograms on an Interstellar Journey is opening to the public on Thursday, February 16. This new temporary exhibit showcases an inspiring collaboration between science and art as a means to reach other star systems at speeds never thought to be achievable.

On the Mend: Restoring Intrepid’s Sick Bay

The temporary exhibition On the Mend: Restoring Intrepid’s Sick Bay examines the history of medical care on the ship while also illuminating the Museum’s current efforts to open sick bay to visitors. Objects, photographs, archives and oral histories reveal the complexities of medical care on board an aircraft carrier at sea. Visitors can also explore an interactive 3D model of sick bay.

In honor of Pride, join the Intrepid Museum on Wednesday, June 21 from 6:00pm-8:00pm for a conversation on the contributions and experiences of LGBTQ service members and military family members, particularly in the face of discrimination. Veterans and family members will share stories of resilience, struggle and activism in the past and present. Learn about the evolution of the military’s policies and practices affecting LGBTQ service members as well as the new challenges service members and military children face today.

This aircraft flew off Intrepid during WWII and now has returned almost 80 years later. Hear from the team of specialists who are preserving the parts of the Corsair. A diverse cross-section of Americans participated in World War II on the battlefield and on the home front. Yet too many stories are still underrepresented. This course aims to examine the World War II experience through multiple narratives and perspectives, offering teachers a chance to develop a classroom practice which connects and empowers all learners to these events through parallel experiences.
