Administrative Services
Due to the Museum's high profile, vast connections and involvement with the community there is much to be done behind the scenes. A volunteer in an administrative position might do such things as filing, mailing, labeling, envelope stuffing, data entry and typing. No prior experience is required.

Aircraft Restoration
Restoration volunteers help maintain and restore the Museum's aircraft collection through manual labor, such as painting, sanding, and riveting. The majority of restoration work is done during the warmer months because the restoration area is on the flight deck. This position reports to the Aircraft Collections Manager. A volunteer will have to complete the standard Volunteer training before beginning their assignment in aircraft restoration. A prior knowledge in metal works, painting, or aircraft is preferred and these positions are only available during regular business hours, Monday through Friday.

Exhibit Explainer
This is the most common volunteer position and requires a high level of customer service. You will receive and need to learn detailed information about specific exhibits in the Museum. It includes explaining such areas as the Captain’s Bridge, Admiral’s Bridge, Flight Deck, Hangar Deck and the Space Shuttle Pavilion and more. The time spent with a guest(s) will usually not exceed ten minutes. You will explain the exhibit while not diverting guests from their own self-guided tours, but rather adding a human touch and a additional information.

Information Desk Volunteer
The Intrepid Museum is seeking a representative at the Information Desk to provide efficient responses to all guest inquiries and delivers a high level of customer service satisfaction through comprehensive knowledge of the museum, including museum lay-out, programming, services available, exhibits, attractions, special events, web site, as well as other NYC attractions.

Exploreum Facilitator
The Intrepid Museum is seeking volunteers to facilitate learning and fun in The Exploreum, Intrepid’s interactive hall. Additionally, Facilitators will be responsible for replenishing supplies at exhibits, monitoring and reporting any damage and ensuring that guests are using the exhibits in a safe and productive way. This position requires excellent customer service, energy and strong presentation and communication skills.
