Imagine students visiting New York City’s Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum from the comfort of their own classroom. With Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum’s Virtual Investigations, teachers can video conference with Intrepid and transform their classroom into a high seas adventure!
Virtual Investigations are conducted over the Internet with a direct connection between Intrepid Museum and the school site, allowing simultaneous two-way video and audio communication between Intrepid’s museum educators and students.
With programs offered in the subject areas of history, geography, and science, video conferencing technology provides an interactive video and audio experience between the Museum’s educators and elementary, middle and high school students.
Using PowerPoint presentations, artifacts and historic photographs, Virtual Investigations encourages real time dialogue between educators and students. Through examining historical documents, artifacts or aircraft from the Museum’s extensive collections, students learn about USS Intrepid’s cruises, day to day life aboard the ship, or laws of flight.
Experienced museum educators adapt rich science and history programs--- typically offered on ship-- to exciting distance learning experiences and bring the Intrepid Museum and its unique collection to those who cannot visit. Educators are experienced and knowledgeable in providing integrated curriculum to a diverse student and adult population. Created in alignment with New York State and national standards, Intrepid's student and teacher programming enhances literacy, encourages scientific investigation, develops mathematical analysis skills, promotes making positive choices and problem solving, and immerses students and teachers in hands-on learning about history and science.
