Today, in honor of Women’s History Month, Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum will launch a 31-day celebration: Salute to Women. Salute to Women will honor the women who have served our nation – both in and out of military uniform – with a series of events designed to honor, educate and inspire the next generation of female leaders.
Intrepid’s Salute to Women will kick off with the March 1st opening of a new exhibit: Inspiration & Industry: American Women on the Home Front, an exhibition of WWI and WWII-era posters that showcases women’s roles in wartime efforts.
The programming immediately continues on Thursday, March 3rd with a FREE Focus on History Lecture, From Rosie the Riveter to Harriet the Happy Homemaker: Women on Screen During and After World War II. Here, Robert Edelman, film historian at University of Albany, will explore the pre-war to post-war transition of American women as seen in popular film.
Each week thereafter will be themed to honor accomplishments by and educate young women in specific fields including:
Week of March 6th: Women in the Arts
Week of March 13th: Women in Health and Fitness
Week of March 20th: Women in Science & Engineering
Week of March 27th: Women in Business
