This year, the Intrepid Museum will offer programs focusing on social studies, history, space science, water science and aviation science for students in grades pre-K–12 visiting from schools, homeschool groups, afterschool programs and more. All of our programs are designed to meet curriculum requirements and are geared toward specific grade levels.
Social studies and history programs include close examination of Museum artifacts, photographs and exhibits to encourage greater understanding of the ship and its crew. Students may engage in programs in which they learn about specific jobs on the ship, discuss the humanity behind the hardware, generate a writing piece based on photographs or curate their own exhibits based on objects from the Museum’s archives.
Science programs at the Intrepid Museum have an interdisciplinary approach that integrates humanities and the arts. In hands-on, student-led activities that build design thinking, students focus on advances in aircraft technology and design, space science, the Space Race, and water as it relates to the form and function of the historic ship Intrepid.
As always, all of our programs can be modified for groups with special needs if requested in advance.
