TEEN EVENTS

Teen and College Night

 
If you want to learn about science, history and technology, connect with colleges or if you’re looking for a unique place to hang with friends, the Intrepid Museum offers free events for teens to connect, learn and meet new people. Throughout the school year, the Museum provides teen audiences with science and history programming, mentorship days, college fairs and teen and college nights. See the listings below for information on upcoming programs.

Perception vs. Reality: The Intersection of AR/VR and Neuroscience

How does augmented and virtual reality affect the human brain? Join us as Intrepid staff and special guests lead discussions, demonstrations and activities about AR/VR and neuroscience. At the conclusion of the program, participants are free to enjoy the Museum for the remainder of the day.
Teen Leadership Programs: Morning Informational

Parents, teachers, school administrators and teens from New York City are invited to learn more about the Intrepid Museum’s no-cost teen leadership programs. Current 8th and 9th grade girls are encouraged to attend an 11:00am session about the GOALS for Girls 6-week summer intensive program, which focuses on leadership and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

At 12:30pm current 9th-11th grade students of any gender are encouraged to attend a Youth Leadership Institute session. Our Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) at Intrepid focuses on civics, leadership, and social advocacy issues. Both teen programs provide college and career-readiness workshops and youth development opportunities. Attendees will receive application materials and updates before the official dissemination in January 2020.
Girls in Science and Engineering Day

In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Museum invites families, chaperoned school/youth groups and teens to celebrate women and girls in STEM at the sixth annual Girls in Science and Engineering Day. Enjoy hands-on experiences, exciting demonstrations and engaging discussions provided by science-based organizations, college programs and New York City public school students. Although this program celebrates girls and women in science, all are encouraged to attend this museum-wide program.
STEAM Mentorship Day: BEING…

Calling all teen girls interested in the diverse subjects of STEM for a day of BEING: being YOURSELF as you speak with peers and women from varied STEAM fields about your interests and journey in STEAM; being INSPIRED as you learn about the different education and career paths of invited female mentors; and being OPEN to the perspectives, opportunities and ways to transformation the STEAM narrative. Join us as we engage in discussion, activities and workshops in support of STEAM opportunities. At the conclusion of the program, participants are free to enjoy the Museum for the remainder of the day. This is a girls only event.
College Fair

Join us at our College Fair! Upper-middle and high school students are invited to learn about the college application process in an intimate and unique setting, speak with college and university representatives, and participate in workshop sessions to connect with college advisors, students and peers.
Teen Night
Friday, June 5, 2020
11:00am-3:00pm

Grab your friends (or come meet new ones!) and experience the Intrepid Museum like never before. You’ll have the ship to yourselves as you explore interactive exhibits, enjoy shows in the pop-up planetarium, compete in a trivia contest to win prizes, and more!

Teen Night is Free! Just bring a valid school ID. Registration is encouraged but not required.
Intrepid Museum Youth Summit

Curious about the awesome work other teens are doing in NYC? The Intrepid Museum Youth Summit is a FREE conference that invites teens to visit the Intrepid Museum and hear about the incredible problem-solving projects created by their peers to address issues across the world. Registration begins January 15, 2020.
GOALS for Girls Summer Intensive, 2020
July, 6-August 14

GOALS for Girls is a FREE six-week STEM program for girls in eighth and ninth grades. During the GOALS Summer Intensive, girls conduct experiments, work on engineering projects and learn in a supportive environment from experts in the STEM fields.
Youth Leadership Institute
Academic Year 2020-2021

Want to make a positive impact on the world? Students currently attending grades 9, 10 and 11 are eligible to apply for our YLI@Intrepid program, where we help develop their full potential to become positive influences in their communities.
