As an educational and cultural nonprofit institution, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum promotes the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming in order to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth. Located in New York City on the Hudson River, the Intrepid Museum was founded in 1982 with the acquisition of the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark. Welcoming one million visitors annually, the Museum also features the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and a guided missile submarine.

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join us full time as the Individual Giving Associate. Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving, the associate will serve as a key point of contact for supporters, Institutional Advancement staff, and other constituents in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to develop his/her fundraising skills and grow within the Museum’s Institutional Advancement department

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage relationships and solicitations for grassroots funders, who contribute up to $1,000 annually to the Intrepid Museum
  • Manage research on prospective supporters, which includes creating profiles, prospect lists, and facebooks reports, among other prospect research tools
  • Support the development and launch of a new tribute program at the Museum
  • Support a revision and relaunch of the Legacy Society, the Museum’s planned giving program
  • Draft articles and manage the production and distribution of Intrepid Advancements, the Museum’s bi-annual donor newsletter
  • Coordinate monthly stewardship efforts for Individual Giving team and Vice President of Institutional Advancement, which includes managing contact lists and drafting copy for engagement emails
  • Complete cover sheets for gift entry use and prepare tax-acknowledgement letters
  • Assist with production and mailing of annual fund appeals, which occur twice a year, once in the spring and at the end of the year
  • Coordinate details for VIPs and Former Crew Members Museum visits, which could include securing tickets, reserving a tour if needed, greeting and assembling gift bag when appropriate, and managing visitation data in Tessitura
  • Create fundraising and stewardship reports and other database reports
  • Maintain individual donor and prospect digital and physical files as well as data in Tessitura
  • Continually update and correct constituent database records
  • Maintain guest lists and other duties as assigned for donor events
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director, Individual Giving

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree and 1–2 years of experience working in an office setting.  The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and proactive team member with strong written and verbal communication skills who is comfortable liaising with high-profile individuals. Ideal candidates must have demonstrated professionalism and skills in time management and multi-tasking. Candidates should be proficient with computer systems, particularly with spreadsheets, email and calendars. Experience working with Tessitura or other client or customer database is a plus, but is not required.
