Inspiration Academy Summer Institute
What: Inspiration Academy is a professional learning series for K–12 educators focused on the integration of inclusive approaches to STEM and history, supporting all learners and fostering both belonging in the classroom and joy in learning. The focus of the Inspiration Academy is on sustaining and engaging BIPOC teachers and/or teachers in majority BIPOC schools who are in their first five (5) years of the profession.

The focus of the Inspiration Academy is on sustaining and engaging BIPOC teachers and/or teachers in majority BIPOC schools who are in their first five (5) years of the profession.
Participants in the Inspiration Academy Summer Institute, funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, attend a five-day institute consisting of in-person sessions with scholars, museum professionals, and fellow teachers. Participants explore how to infuse historical and scientific thinking into their classroom with a focus on Next Generation Science Standards and parallels to the C3 Framework.
Inspiration Academy are eligible for a $500 stipend upon successful completion of the Summer Institute. 30 hours of CTLE credit is also awarded for this professional development program.
This program is limited to 25 participants who will be chosen through an application process. Applications due June 1, 2024. Participants will be notified of acceptance or wait-list by June 24, 2024. Sessions will be held at the Intrepid Museum and other select NYC sites.
Program Goals: The aim of the Inspiration Academy is to ensure that new teachers will develop supportive networks of peers and have increased confidence with the integration of historical and contemporary resources that amplify marginalized voices in history and the sciences, creating a joyful and rigorous classroom experience which encourages a sense of belonging for themselves, their peers and their students.
Who Should Apply: This program is aimed at supporting teachers who meet some or all of the following characteristics: Teachers in their first five (5) years in the profession; teachers who identify as BIPOC; teachers who teach students identifying as BIPOC; teachers who want to explore the integration of STEM and history in the classroom. You must currently be a teacher in a school located in New York State and able to attend all in-person sessions to apply for Summer Institute 2024.
