Intrepid After Hours

Intrepid After Hours
Intrepid After Hours invites military veterans and service members to experience the Museum at night. Explore the Museum without the crowds, and then join peers for conversation, a creative exercise and a catered dinner.

As we continue practicing social distancing, Intrepid After Hours will be going virtual! Join fellow veterans and service members via Zoom for a free interactive program and conversation.

Celebrate Cakes!

As we enter the Holiday Season, join the Intrepid Museum and fellow veterans virtually as we talk about celebrations onboard. We will be touring our exhibition, Navy Cakes: A Slice of History. Explore recipes, photos, artifacts and oral histories that tell the stories of the elaborate confections baked onboard Intrepid and Growler.

Military Family Programs (for children ages 3-18)

Military Family Programs

Created for current and former military service members and their families, these programs include an interactive tour of the Museum, experiments, and design challenges intended to engage the whole family. Fall 2020 programs are now virtual. Virtual programs take place over Zoom and include at-home activity packets.

Virtual Military Family Program: Life Underwater
Sunday, November 15, 11:00am-12:00pm

Learn about the adventures and challenges of life underwater! Families will explore the submarine Growler virtually. Then experiment with keeping things afloat and other design challenges!

Vet Video Chats

For veterans who are unable to visit the Museum, video chats build social connections and provide stimulating conversations. This online program highlights objects and spaces within the Museum and invites individuals to ask questions, make comments and share stories. It will especially enrich the lives of individuals who require intensive healthcare services at home or in a hospital setting.

Guided Group Tours for NYC Veterans

Guided Group Tours for NYC Veterans

The Intrepid Museum offers free guided tours for organizations that serve veterans and military families. Currently all guided tours are conducted virtually. These interactive programs can be tailored to the interests of the group. All virtual tours are conducted over Zoom or Google Meet. Intrepid Book Club

Join fellow veterans, service members and military family members online for a lively book discussion! The Intrepid Book Club meets quarterly for a two-hour facilitated discussion with an introduction related to the Museum's collection and crew. Books are a mix of fiction and nonfiction, all related to military or military family experiences. Copies of the books are available for free on a first-come, first-served basis and advanced registration is required.

The Intrepid Book Club is free for all current and former service members and their families, spouses and partners.

Missionaries with Special Guest Author Phil Klay

Join other veterans and their guests as we discuss the new highly anticipated novel Missionaries, with special guest, National Book Award author, Phil Klay! Missionaries follows four characters as they become further entangled in the Columbian civil war. This newly released novel was named “Most Anticipated of Fall 2020” by the Chicago Tribune and New York Magazine and was included on the New York Times “17 New Books to Watch For in October” list. Be a part of this unique experience as we discuss this thrilling novel with the author!

Veterans Plus

Veterans Plus programs are special daytime or evening events that are relevant to the military community. During this time, all Veteran Plus programs are virtual. Virtual Veterans Plus programs are conducted over Zoom and are open to veterans, current service members and civilians to share in the experience.

Your Brain on the Military

The Intrepid Museum and New York Presbyterian Military Family Wellness Center welcome current and former military service members and their families for a series exploring the links between military service and the brain. Hear from researchers and veterans as they unravel myths and realities about the military and mental health.
