Programs at the Museum and online for current and former service members and their loved ones are free with advance registration. Customized programs for veteran service organizations, vet centers, VA hospitals, military family organizations and other groups are also available!

Intrepid After Hours

Intrepid After Hours

Join fellow veterans and service members at the Intrepid Museum to explore the Museum without the crowds. Then join peers for conversation, a behind-the-scenes experience and a catered dinner.

Art Workshop with Claymore Vets
Wednesday, May 11, 4:30-8:00pm

Maria Salazar—artist, Marine Corps veteran and founder of Claymore Vets—will lead participants through an art workshop. Claymore Vets uses visual art to help foster social reconnection and growth within the veteran community. Participants will create leaves in the memory of a fallen service member, which will be added to a collaborative Tree of Life sculpture, in honor of Memorial Day. Then, continue the conversation over a catered dinner.

This program is for current and former service members only. All materials will be provided. No previous art experience required!

Military Family Programs (for children ages 3-18)

Military Family Programs

Created for current and former military service members and their families, these programs include exploration of the Museum and related activities intended to engage the whole family. Programs take place at the Intrepid Museum and include take-home activity packets.

Navigation: Finding Your Way
Sunday, June 26, 1:00pm - 3:00pm ET


From ships and planes to submarines and even space shuttles, vessels of all types use navigation to find their way. Families will explore historic spaces and methods that people have used to navigate throughout history as well as make connections to how we find our way today. Registration will open in May.

 

Vet Video Chats

For veterans who are unable to visit the Museum, video chats build social connections and provide stimulating conversations. This online program highlights objects and spaces within the Museum and invites individuals to ask questions, make comments and share stories. It will especially enrich the lives of individuals who require intensive healthcare services at home or in a hospital setting.

Guided Group Tours for NYC Veterans

The Intrepid Museum offers free guided tours for organizations that serve veterans and military families. These interactive programs can be tailored to the interests of the group. Intrepid Book Club

Join fellow veterans, service members and military family members online for a lively book discussion! The Intrepid Book Club meets quarterly for a two-hour facilitated discussion with an introduction related to the Museum's collection and crew. Books are a mix of fiction and nonfiction, all related to military or military family experiences. Copies of the books are available for free on a first-come, first-served basis and advanced registration is required.

The Intrepid Book Club is free for all current and former service members and their families, spouses and partners.

On Liberty

On Liberty: Zooming into Museums Across the Country
Virtually visit museums all across the country with the Intrepid Museum. Join fellow veterans, current service members and their loved ones to explore museums from near and far with connections to the Intrepid Museum’s history and collection. Each program will be guided by museum curators and educators, with plenty of opportunities to share and ask questions. No travel is needed for these interactive virtual visits!

Harbor Defense Museum
Wednesday, May 18, 6:00 – 7:00pm ET

Join the Intrepid Museum and fellow veterans, service members and their loved ones for a virtual staycation! We will be Zooming into Fort Hamilton to visit with the Harbor Defense Museum. Harbor Defense Museum curator Justin Batt will highlight the rich history of Fort Hamilton, from its role in coastal defense to its present as a recruiting station. The Intrepid Museum’s curator of history and collections, Jessica Williams will explore Intrepid’s visits to New York City, which included refits for the ship and recreation for the crew. There will be time to ask questions and share stories.

Your Brain on the Military

The Intrepid Museum and NewYork-Presbyterian Military Family Wellness Center welcome current and former military service members and their families for a series exploring the links between military service and the brain. Hear from researchers and veterans as they unravel myths and realities about the military and mental health.
